Roy’s individualized coaching sessions can help you build a satisfying practice that align with your professional goals. Through coaching, you get the structure, guidance and encouragement you need to accomplish your objectives.
If the idea of having a coach is new to you, you probably have a few questions.
Who hires a coach?
Roy's clients typically fall into two categories:
- Those who want to take their legal career to a higher and more satisfying level by:
- developing more business
- managing their practice more effectively
- exploring new practice areas
- changing workplace environments
-
Those who are entering their late-stage career and considering:
- rebalancing personal and professional priorities
- when is the best time and way to wind down their practice
Why would I need a coach to help me achieve my goals?
Sure, you can manage your own career.... in between the work. If you think you can't find the time for coaching, you are likely one of those most in need of it. The research on adult learning shows that adults learn best one-on-one, using measurable steps to make change happen. An important reason to have a coach is to set aside time to really focus on your goals, identify opportunities and develop an action plan.
How does the coaching process work?
- Meet with Roy to formulate your goals, identify your values and strengths and explore the limits of your comfort zone
- Together with Roy, create an action plan with attainable goals that provides focus, discipline and accountability
- Check in with Roy weekly, bi-monthly or monthly depending on your needs and progress
- During sessions, Roy helps you brainstorm great ideas, gets you motivated and provides expert advice surrounding the issues you face
- Between sessions, clients are frequently given exercises that center on reflection of past experiences, or homework to research the opportunities being pursued
- Sessions are held either in person or over the phone and usually last an hour
- Roy is always available to discuss any issues that arise between sessions
What distinguishes Roy from other attorney coaches?
In addition to being one of the most experienced attorney coaches in the Twin Cities area, Roy has an active solo practice in marketing ethics and employment law, representing both businesses and individuals. In his 25-year legal career, Roy has worked in large and small firms and as in-house counsel in corporate legal departments. His well-rounded perspective serves his coaching clients, who hail from all across the country, very well. In short, he knows of what he speaks.
Roy is part strategist, part sounding board, part cheerleader and part taskmaster. In terms of coaching style, his direct approach means that clients get honest, yet supportive, advice and feedback. He tells you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear.
